This is what real support looks like.
When I called my state’s problem gambling hotline, they gave me a long list of resources. The person I spoke with encouraged me to download the app right away, and to call my local state-funded treatment office that night - before I lost my nerve. The treatment office was closed, so I left a message. They never called me back. Maybe I left an inaudible message? Evive gave me immediate access to lessons and a community. It was the lifeline I needed, and has become the cornerstone of my recovery.

I live in a state with around 150 casinos. I’m in a rural area where finding recovery resources feels impossible; I actually didn’t even know gambling recovery existed until I found Evive. Sure, I had seen the 1-800 numbers on the ATM screen in the casino, but always figured it was just a requirement. Evive gave me access to peer support, connected me to gambling certified counselors, meetings, and my favorite, a community full of connections with lived experience. These tools turned an isolating battle into an achievable journey. Evive gave me hope when I was totally broken.

On Christmas Day 2025 I finally came to the end of my rope. I had tried for years to quit gambling on my own, so I turned to a Google search to find help. I knew there were 12-step meetings out there but I was hoping for something I could plug into my daily routine without having to engage with other people. I’m also a technology guy so using an app was appealing as a place to start. Evive came up as a resource for people trying to quit gambling so I decided to download the app. I like to say, ‘I came to Evive to help me find abstinence and I found recovery’. The lessons helped me understand the addiction. The tools helped me put practical actions and routines in place to build abstinence. But the community and the meetings were the key. Little did I know that the thing I was trying to avoid was the thing I needed the most. The connections and support they provide have become the foundation of my recovery.

Before I found Evive, I felt isolated and believed I had to fight my gambling addiction on my own. What I discovered instead was a group of people who truly understood the highs, the lows, the relapses, and the victories. That support has made an incredible difference in my recovery. This community has given me hope on difficult days, celebrated my milestones, and reminded me that recovery is possible. The encouragement, accountability, and honesty here have helped me build a life with more peace, more freedom, and more confidence.

I found Evive the night that I was caught by my wife after 5 years of online gambling, and blowing through almost $250K of savings, credit card debt, retirement funds and my son’s education fund. I was at rock bottom, no money, and in debt. The worst part was the lying and deception that I was doing with my wife and son for the last 5 years. I put a message in the forum and within minutes had a response from the Evive Moderators. I was stunned that two people cared that quickly. I attended my first meeting a few days later and had no idea what to expect. It was scary. But the community, and 15 people in that first meeting made me feel validated and after sharing, it felt cleansing.
I tried calling my local networks for gambling addiction, and it took 6 days to receive a call back. Just felt like nobody cared. The free government resources in Ontario Canada are most likely underfunded and lacking experienced professionals. The accessibility of an app like Evive is so much easier to connect with at any time! Day or night, someone is there. Using my phone to journal, check-in, use the forums, direct message people just takes away all the traditional barriers.

Finding support shouldn't happen by chance.
One story, many voices. Each one here comes down to timing. The support existed; it just wasn’t close enough, soon enough. Your gift changes that, starting with the communities where public funding is nonexistent today.
